When Fender sought to challenge Gibson and Gretsch’s hollowbody dominance, designer Roger Rossmeisl created the Coronado seriesa sophisticated instrument that redefined the company’s sonic ambitions. This 1967 Coronado II exemplifies that vision – and much more.
The mesmerizing Wildwood III look – produced by infusing natural beech wood with vibrant dyes – creates a distinctive character for the guitar. It’s quite fitting for 1967. Designed for those who want the resonance of a semi-hollow guitar and punch of a solid body, the Coronado II offers a unique taste. You get palette ranging from rich and warm on the lows to bright and articulate on the highs, with mids stong enough to stand out but soft enough to keep it mellow. That sounds like a word salad but that’s what this guitar is, and hey man, the late 60’s were a wild time.
The guitar is loaded with dual DeArmond single-coil pickups, which create an open, woody tone (fitting for this guitar). It sounds amazing clean, but can also dirty up nicely when needed. You three-way pickup selector switch, independent tone and volume controls to dial it in just as you like.
The neck has a C profile that is very comfortable to play. Also, the guitar has the added touch of block inlays adorning its bound neck.
This Coronado II is in great shape considering it’s age. It is all original, except for the trem arm, which is aftermarket, and it has the original case It’s been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.
