The MXR Timmy Overdrive offers an extensive array of gritty, textured tones that elevate your rig’s sound while maintaining its core voice. Encased in a compact MXR mini housing, this pedal frees up significant space on your pedalboard.
Designed by veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane, this pedal is celebrated among top-tier professionals like Kenny Greenberg, Lyle Workman, and Brad Whitford. To bring his pedal to a broader audience, Paul teamed up with the MXR design team. “It’s an honor to work with MXR,” Paul states, “My first ever pedal was a Phase 90.”
Thanks to Paul’s innovative use of clipping options and tone controls, the mxr timmy is a dream for working guitarists. The Clip switch offers three distinct clipping styles for various scenarioswhether you’re after a bold, high-headroom sound, a compressed and saturated tone for fat chords, or anything in between. The Timmy has a 3-way toggle switch which gives the same two settings as the Tim plus a third asymmetrical clipping setting. The middle position is the least compressed symmetrical setting. Down is a more compressed symmetrical setting, while up is the asymmetrical setting.”
The Bass and Treble controls provide further fine-tuning. These cut-only controls preserve your signal’s character and make it easy to dial in a clean boost. The Bass control affects your pre-overdrive signal, maintaining low end at lower Gain settings, while the Treble control manages the post-overdrive signal, ensuring smooth and musical dirty settings.
MXR’s design team collaborated with Paul to choose the perfect op-amp for this expertly crafted pedal. The LF353 was selected for its high output, high gain, and hi-fi signal delivery. The resulting mxr timmy is a professional-grade pedal that delivers sweet, harmonic breakup and responds dynamically to your playing, all while maintaining your rig’s unique character in a compact form.
