Sonic Evaluation
This Dove is an unbelievable example of the magical alchemy that occurs when the fine folks at Gibson build an acoustic guitar with maple back and sides. Though it has clearly been babied as it is in outstanding condition, it has also clearly been played a lot, because it has broken in beautifully. It exhibits all the characteristics I love in a maple-bodied acoustic: crystalline purity, beautiful woody chime, superb articulation, excellent note separation, immediate responsiveness, and impressive dynamics. But, this serial goes beyond the usual characteristics I associate with maple. Though overall it is a sunny-sounding guitar, it boasts a warmer voice than is usual for a Dove, and it has more bass response and midrange fullness to go with its sparkling high-end.
Beyond that, it also has stunning volume, headroom, and projecting power. It makes a wonderful strummer (and would likely be a studio superstar–rhythm tracks for days!), but it’s still responsive enough for fingerstyle.
Basically, if you’re looking to fall in love with a Dove, this serial will make big ‘ol hearts dance in your eyes!
Condition Report
As previously mentioned, this Dove is super clean! The frets show very little wear, and the finish shows very light signs of normal use. The only cosmetic imperfection to report is a small ding n the back by the lower bout on the treble side. A previous owner also installed a strap button on the neck heel. It comes with its original hardshell case, too!
