ESP’s Japanese Custom Shop is famous for producing unique handmade instruments for their clientele, built to nearly any specification and catering to all idiosyncratic needs. Ostensibly built for a Japanese guitarist named T. Shibahara, this particular Superstrat boasts a solid ash body, flame maple neck with an ebony fingerboard, DiMarzio pickup pair, and a gloss Pink Sunburst finish.
A true no-frills shred machine, this ESP Superstrat is loaded with a pair of DiMarzio pickups: the D Sonic humbucker at the bridge features an asymmetrical design, wherein one coil has a blade pole design and the other has standard pole pieces. Its a potent, powerful pickup with tons of output, focused midrange aggression, and smooth treble punch. The neck pickup is an HS-3 stacked single coil, a perennial DiMarzio favorite, offering hum-free performance with a broad low end that’s warm and tight with a smooth, glassy treble response. This T. Shibahara Superstrat weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mikes Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
