This 2020 Fender Jazz Bass was custom-ordered through the Fender Mod Shop and features a rare combination of specs that nod heavily to the classic ’70s aesthetic. Fenders Mod Shop is a direct-to-customer program that allows players to customize their instrument with a range of spec options. Built on the same foundation as an American Professional Series Jazz Bass (first generation), it adds a number of upgrades that set it apart.
The neck is a standout feature: bound maple with a matching maple fingerboard, pearloid block inlays, and an American Original 70s Jazz Bass neck profile. Its topped with a gloss headstock face thats tinted a rich amber, while the rest of the neck remains the natural light color of maple. This detail mimics the natural aging pattern seen on original 70s Fenders, where the lacquered headstock face would amber over time while the poly-finished neck stayed lighter.
The body is alder with a gloss Olympic White finish, and its loaded with a Pure Vintage ’64 Jazz Bass pickups in the bridge and neck positions, giving it a punchy, articulate tone with more of a vintage flavor than the stock American Pro models. It has vintage-style open-gear tuners and a three-knob control layout. This bass is essentially unplayed and in flawless condition, with no blemishes or signs of wear, and includes the original molded Fender hardshell case. If you’re looking for a U.S.-made Jazz Bass with a classic look, custom vibe, and a pickup upgrade from the factory, this one checks a lot of boxes.
