Despite being a “student” model, the early Musicmasters have a unique combination of features that make it one of our personal favorite Fender models. It has a super short scale 22.5″ neck that gives the strings a nice slinky feel. And since the frets are so close together, you can easily reach many chords that might not be possible on a full 25.5″ scale neck. The single pickup is in a unique location so the tone is somewhere between what you would get from a typical neck and middle pickup. We find that playing with a single pickup forces you to be more creative. Playing near the bridge will give you a bright tone like a bridge pickup while playing over the fingerboard will give you a warm jazzy tone.

Here is a very nice all original example from 1958. It has all of the features that are desirable to collectors such as the gold anodized pickguard, maple fingerboard, larger ’58 neck profile, wider 1 5/8″ nut, steel barrel saddles, and original hard shell case! All electronics are original and undisturbed. It has been set up with 11’s and plays great up and down the neck.

This one has just been newly refretted with vintage correct fretwire! Guaranteed to be the nicest playing and sounding one on the market. A great deal for a 50’s Fender guitar.
