Introduced in 1982, the 944 marked a significant departure for Porsche. Designed as a successor to the 924, the 944 featured a new 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder, front mounted engine, and paired with its near 50/50 balance split, the car was truly remarkable. As Porsche continued to refine the model, the 944 evolved through several iterations, culminating in the introduction of the 944 Turbo in 1985.
The 944 Turbo, was the performance flagship of the 944 lineup. Retaining the original 2.5L inline-four power-plant, this new evolution now featured a single turbocharger, delivering a substantial increase in powerreaching 217 horsepower, a whopping 80 HP bump over its N/A predecessor. The 944 Turbo quickly became a celebrated blend of exhilarating performance and everyday usability.
Photographed here, our 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo is finished in its original configuration of Stone Grey Metallic over a Black leather interior. Having recently benefitted from a full service inclusive of a timing-chain replacement, this very well-kept, 84k mile, 944 Turbo is a wonderful example of one of the greatest daily-drivable 80s sports cars ever built.
