This is a sweet sounding vintage 1920s A. Galiano Fabricate di Chitarre e Mandolini parlor style acoustic guitar. The Galiano label was used by several New York City guitar makers and often referred to the work of 1920s luthier Antonia Cerrito and other Italian craftsmen. Although many parlor-sized Galiano guitars were made by the Oscar Schmidt factory in nearby New Jersey, I believe that this guitar is not one of them and is indeed from the community if Italian builders in NYC and perhaps by Cerrito himsself. This guitar is in good playable condition, but there are plenty of marks and scratches throughout and some finish clouding to the Mahogany back and sides. There are also several small repaired back cracks at the bottom of the lower bout and a repaired heel crack. The guitar is currently strung with nylon strings and is resonant and beautiful sounding that way. The action sits at 4mm at the 12th fret which is appropriate for nylon playing. Although the guitar’s ladder bracing could accommodate steel strings, it would require a neck reset to gain the lower action typically desired for steel strings. This is reflected in the pricing. Comes with a period brown chipboard case, perhaps the original, in fair to good condition with intact plastic handle and working latches.
