Introduced in 1969 as a successor to the 206 GT and branded as a “Dino” to honor Enzo Ferrari’s late son, Alfredo “Dino Ferrari, the Dino 246 holds a special place in automotive history as one of the first mid-engine Ferrari sports cars. The 246 featured a more powerful 2.4-liter V6 engine producing 195 horsepower. Its stunning Pininfarina design, with flowing curves and perfect proportions, quickly became a hallmark of Italian automotive styling.
The GTS trim, first seen in 1972, added a Targa-style removable roof panel to the lightweight mid-engined platform. Of the 3,761 Dino 246 models produced, only 1,274 were GTS versions, making it a highly sought-after collectible today. Adding to its uniqueness, some GTS models were equipped with the Chairs option, which referred to the coveted Daytona-style leather seats.
Photographed here, our final year, 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS is finished in Nero over Nero leather, and retains its original Chairs (originally Cream). Equipped with factory air-conditioning, 08076 was delivered new in California from Ron Tonkin Ferrari in Portland, Oregon and was restored in 2006having been exceptionally well-cared for since.
