Sonic Evaluation

Wildwoodians, when you work at a place like this, magical rock and roll experiences are the norm, but playing this ’72 Deluxe might have been one of the coolest. It just rips! The mini humbuckers have this vocal snarl and bite to them that I find utterly addictive and inspiring. It’s like if you took a regular vitnage humbucker and shaved off all the fat, leaving you with nothing but muscle and an extremely bad attitude. The low-end is tight but present, the highs are sizzling and raspy, and the midrange bites like an underfed junkyard dawg! There’s also a lovely sag in the attack (which is also quite articulate) that gives way to some sah-weet note bloom. If you’re looking for a vintage Deluxe, or if you’re just a fan of rock and roll nastiness, you’ll love this serial!

Condition Report

This ’72 LP Deluxe is in fantastic shape for its age! It shows the typical dings, checks, scratches, missing finish, and hardware tarnishing we expect of a guitar from the seventies, and it looks AWESOME–mojo for days! The frets show heavy wear (measuring about .100 inches by .030 inches), but it still plays awesome. A previous owner replaced the tuners with period-correct reproductions, and at some point another owner put aftermarket Grovers or Schallers on it. Accordingly, it looks like a tech enlarged the tuner holes, and the bushings are aftermarket restorations. The bridge is also an aftermarket part, and the original is in the case. However, everything else is original! It comes with a non-original Gibson USA hardshell case, too.
